Travel Deals We’ve Taken Advantage Of (and Saved $5,354)

What a lot of people are unaware of is how many deals come up that they could have taken advantage of and how easy it can actually be to find a deal.  M & I have been traveling like quite a bit lately and most of that is due to the great deals we have been able to find on airfare.

Here are some of the deals we’ve taken advantage of:

  • MSP to HNL (Honolulu, Hawaii) in Winter 2016
    • $500 for roundtrip airfare (per person including taxes & fees)
    • Nonstop flights
    • Savings of approximately $600 per person*
  • MSP to AMS (Amsterdam, Netherlands) in Spring 2017
    • $488 for roundtrip airfare (per person including taxes & fees)
    • Savings of approximately $450 per person*
  • MSP to HNL (Honolulu, Hawaii) in Late Spring 2017
    • $323 for roundtrip airfare (per person including taxes & fees)
    • Nonstop flights
    • Savings of approximately $777 per person*
  • RST to BCN (Barcelona, Spain) for Fall 2017
    • $404 for roundtrip airfare (per person including taxes & fees)
    • Savings of approximately $850 per person*

Based on these four trips alone, we have saved around $2,677 on airfare per person (or $5,354 for the both of us)!

FLIGHT DEAL - Template (4)For all of our airfare listed above, we paid for “Main Cabin” or “Economy” airfare that were booked directly with the airline on their website. For those of you who followed these travels with us will notice that we may have been seated in either “Economy Comfort+” or “First Class” during these trips. This is likely due to complementary upgrades based on airline status.

Other ways we saved money on airfare that is not listed above:

  • Airline Vouchers: M & I both had airline vouchers for various reasons. We were able to apply these to some of the trips we have taken.  This helped us with additional significant savings that is not calculated in our savings total above.
  • Companion Pass Ticket: Delta Airlines has a deal where if you buy certain fare tickets – you can get one free companion ticket per year (with restrictions) by using one of their cobranded cards.  We saved $303 on our weekend trip to NYC in early 2017. I’m not going to provide too much detail on this is as I am no credit card expert and not a partner of this credit card, but you can easily look this information up via Delta’s website. Please note that this only applies to certain credit cards on their program and that I am not providing credit card advice, just stating how we saved money.
